Back when Splatoon 2 just came out, we talked about its rhythm minigame Squid Beatz 2 (イカラジオ2, Ika Radio 2) and how it has a little homage section for the already-out Calamari Inkantation Oni notechart on Taiko no Tatsujin.
Now that Splatoon 2 Medley has been out on Taiko no Tatsujin (Blue ver., and soon on Nintendo Switch Version too), let's venture onwards to the second episode of this saga.
The Splatoon 2 Medley consists of the following three parts as from the original soundtrack:
And as you know, Splatoon 2 has the rhythm minigame mode known to reference Taiko no Tatsujin notechart patterns, so let's cross-check the Hard notecharts with the Oni notechart and... they match! Almost a one-to-one lift from the original actually, making it a third in the whole series after Extreme MGG★★★ and Music Revolver.
Like last time, the Splatoon social media team also took time to speak about the song inclusion, and with explicit mention that Squid Beatz 2 is used as reference for both Muzukashii and Oni, plus a little hint for the uninitiated of the Ura notechart. With them acknowledging the fact and all, these two homages are likely a conscious choice between Namco/Taiko Team and Nintendo. Now if only Super Mario Oddessey has a rhythm minigame, we could have teased the notechart months ahead...
